Introduction: Taking on the Challenge of “Discussing Disaster Preparedness on the Global Stage”
As of July, Munetoshi Kondo, CEO of SAKIGAKE JAPAN, has officially joined WAOJE (World Association of Overseas Japanese Entrepreneurs) — a global network of Japanese entrepreneurs based overseas. By participating in WAOJE, we hope to broaden our connections with globally minded entrepreneurs and professionals, and further accelerate our efforts toward international business development.
Disaster preparedness is often perceived as a “domestic issue” in Japan. However, in reality, the threat of natural disasters—such as earthquakes, floods, and typhoons—is intensifying across Southeast Asia, South America, Africa, and other regions. The disaster management technologies, systems, and educational methods we have developed in Japan have the potential to significantly improve emergency response in other countries as well. Our decision to join WAOJE stems from this conviction.
What is WAOJE? — A Global Network of Japanese Entrepreneurs
WAOJE (World Association of Overseas Japanese Entrepreneurs) is a global network of Japanese entrepreneurs who are active in countries and cities around the world. With chapters in over 30 cities including Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and New York, WAOJE supports a wide range of professionals who are boldly taking on new challenges in diverse fields.
What makes WAOJE unique is that it offers more than just “information sharing.” Its greatest value lies in the genuine exchanges and learning opportunities with members who have actually started businesses overseas and built strong, trusted relationships with local governments and partners.
For mission-driven companies like SAKIGAKE JAPAN, which aim to solve social challenges, networks like WAOJE offer more than just marketing support. They are valuable entry points for co-creating practical, needed disaster solutions — grounded in the realities of each local context.

Disaster Preparedness as a Global Infrastructure
At SAKIGAKE JAPAN, our goal is not to simply export Japanese technology, but to create “localized disaster resilience” tailored to each country’s specific challenges.
The knowledge, networks, and trust we gain through WAOJE are not just tools for expanding our business. For example, we see strong potential for collaboration in areas such as:
- Addressing urban flood risks in rapidly growing ASEAN cities
- Supporting vulnerable infrastructure in Pacific island nations
- Bridging educational gaps in disaster preparedness across Africa
At the same time, we recognize that “Japanese-style” solutions cannot simply be imposed on other countries. That is why we place high importance on co-designing solutions through ongoing dialogue with those who are already engaged and established in their local communities — just as WAOJE members are.
Looking Ahead: Sharing Our Global Journey
Disaster preparedness is not just about having the ability to protect, but also the ability to connect. In addressing global disaster challenges, we aim to build collaborative models rooted in local needs, supported by our three pillars: technology, education, and systems consulting.
In the coming months, we plan to share updates on the insights, encounters, and lessons we gain through WAOJE right here on our blog. Every connection and discovery made on the ground has the potential to contribute to long-term social implementation.
We sincerely hope you’ll continue to follow our journey and support our evolving mission.
