Returning to Our Origins at the Edge of the World —Edge of the World × SAKIGAKE JAPAN Founding Anniversary

In Saudi Arabia, there is a place known as the “Edge of the World.”
About a two-hour drive by four-wheel-drive from the capital city of Riyadh, this dramatic cliff suddenly emerges deep within the desert. It is said that this vast area was once part of an ancient sea.

Standing there, one is overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the Earth and nature—and at the same time, made acutely aware of one’s own smallness.
Yet, curiously, the experience does not end with humility alone.

A quiet but unmistakable feeling begins to rise:

“I want to move further toward the frontier.”

That feeling is precisely the sensibility that SAKIGAKE JAPAN has cherished since its founding.

The Sensation of Moving Toward the Frontier

Since our first visit to Saudi Arabia a year ago, this was a place we had long hoped to visit.
This time, we traveled together as a group of six—Indian, Greek, Saudi, and Japanese—each with different nationalities and backgrounds.

The English I relearned after deciding to conduct business overseas proved its value once again in moments like these. Language is not merely a tool; it is a foundation that shortens the distance between people and broadens one’s perspective.

On overseas business trips, we intentionally make time not only for meetings, but also to experience local culture and landscapes. Perhaps this is less for the sake of business itself, and more about periodically resetting our own decision-making compass.

Reflections on December 8 — Our Founding Anniversary

That our visit to the “Edge of the World” coincided closely with December 8, SAKIGAKE JAPAN’s founding anniversary, was purely coincidental—but it carried a strong sense of symbolism.

December 8 is also the date marking the attack on Pearl Harbor, the beginning of the Pacific War, and holds deep historical significance for Japan.

Japan ultimately experienced a profound defeat in that war. Rather than approaching this history emotionally, we believe it is essential to ask what can be learned from failure.

At SAKIGAKE JAPAN, this perspective is reflected in three principles we continuously revisit in our management:

Uphold a higher purpose
— Why are we undertaking this business in the first place?

Value overarching strategy
— Are we maintaining coherence as a whole, rather than falling into partial optimization?

Respect logistics and sustainability
— Do we have sufficient capital, talent, and information to continue challenging ourselves?

From the Edge of the World to the Next Frontier

Standing at the Edge of the World allows one to view time from a broader perspective.
Revisiting our founding anniversary at the same moment brought us back to our origins once again.

Together, this journey became a quiet but meaningful confirmation—preparing us to move toward the next frontier.

SAKIGAKE JAPAN will continue to challenge itself on the global stage, always carrying questions forward as we do.
