SAKIGAKE JAPAN’s “Mobile Cold Storage Box” Showcased at TICAD9

Showcased at TICAD9 in Yokohama

In August 2025, at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) held in Yokohama, our partner product, the “Mobile Cold Storage Box Portable,” was presented as part of a joint exhibition with the City of Kobe.

What is TICAD9?

TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) is an international conference launched in 1993 by the Government of Japan in collaboration with the United Nations, the African Union, and other partners.

The 9th edition carried the theme “Co-create innovative solutions with Africa”, bringing together heads of state, international organizations, and private-sector companies to discuss and share knowledge on sustainable development and international cooperation.

Joint Exhibition with the City of Kobe

Kobe City—home to our partner, Cold Storage Japan Co., Ltd.—was the only Japanese municipality, apart from the host city of Yokohama, to participate in TICAD9.

Through this collaboration, the off-grid model of the Mobile Cold Storage Box Portable was displayed at the venue.

Kobe Mayor Kizo Hisamoto also visited the booth, where Cold Storage Japan CEO Mr. Goto explained the features and significance of the product. Discussions highlighted how the unit connects with Kobe’s longstanding focus on urban disaster preparedness and international cooperation.

Strong Interest from Africa

The unit, capable of operating without external power, drew considerable interest from African delegates. Many visitors engaged with us to learn about its refrigeration and freezing mechanisms, as well as its applications.

In regions where electricity and logistics infrastructure are unstable, the ability to preserve medical supplies and food during outages—and to improve everyday food distribution—was recognized as highly valuable.

The Significance of This Showcase

For SAKIGAKE JAPAN, being introduced at an international forum like TICAD is more than a showcase. It highlights how Japan’s expertise in disaster preparedness and resilience can help address global challenges.

The Mobile Cold Storage Box embodies the concept of “phase-free” resilience—serving both during emergencies and in everyday life or industry. This aligns with our guiding philosophy: making preparedness part of daily life.

Looking Ahead

TICAD9 provided a vital platform for Japan and Africa to explore solutions together and co-create a sustainable future.

Moving forward, SAKIGAKE JAPAN will continue delivering disaster resilience and social infrastructure solutions—such as the Mobile Cold Storage Box—both in Japan and internationally, contributing to the creation of sustainable, resilient communities.
