Opening a new office at Fukuoka Growth Next (FGN): The appeal and potential of Fukuoka

SAKIGAKE JAPAN is pleased to announce the opening of our new office at Fukuoka Growth Next (FGN), a startup support facility located in the Tenjin area of Fukuoka City. In this article, we introduce the attraction of FGN, our reasons for expanding there, and the vision we aim to achieve in Fukuoka.

Fukuoka Growth Next – A startup support facility in Fukuoka
Fukuoka Growth Next is a facility supported by Fukuoka City that assists startups with ideas for a prosperous future. Established through a public–private partnership, it provides specialized support for founding businesses in a collaborative environment.

Why FGN? — Fukuoka, the startup hub of Japan
FGN was launched in 2017 in the former Daimyo Elementary School building via government–private collaboration. Over 400 startups have moved in, turning it into a dynamic growth venue recognized throughout Japan and abroad. Fukuoka City, declared a “Startup City” in 2014, offers startup-friendly systems—from labor and visas to affordable office costs. FGN features coworking spaces, labs, and a Startup Café offering free expert consultations and funding assistance.

Why we chose FGN — Enabling real co-creation and business expansion
Our company—active in urban disaster resilience and disaster risk projects with local governments and overseas partners—sees FGN as a place to:
– Strengthen partnerships with startups and municipalities in Japan and abroad
– Pilot and implement solutions grounded in regional challenges
– Establish an Asian access point via Fukuoka, especially given its expanding ties with Vietnam and Thailand

What is Fukuoka Growth Next?
FGN aims to nurture startups into unicorns through pitch events and accelerator programs. It provides labs, cafes, and visa support to startups beyond Tokyo and northern Japan.

The appeal of living and working in Fukuoka
Fukuoka is a leading growth city—young, diverse, and highly livable.
– Excellent transport by subway, airport, and Kyushu Shinkansen
– Balanced lifestyle: nature, dining, and culture alongside work
– Supports like housing subsidies, tax breaks, and grants
These advantages make Fukuoka an ideal location for our disaster-resilience work.

What we aim to achieve in our new office
At FGN, we will:
– Use the site to pilot climate- and disaster-response tech
– Collaborate with local governments for refined, context-aware deployments
– Join acceleration programs and shared events to sharpen solutions
