[Lecture Event] Delivered a Talk at Kitakyushu Chamber of Commerce on “Disaster Preparedness and Business Growth”

I had the honor of delivering a lecture at the Kitakyushu Chamber of Commerce, my hometown, to local business leaders. The theme was “Disaster Preparedness and Business Growth – Building a Sustainable Future for Enterprises.”

With the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters, Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and disaster preparedness have become essential for corporate management. However, Kitakyushu, known as a region with relatively low disaster risks, often tends to overlook these measures. In this lecture, I emphasized how incorporating disaster preparedness into corporate strategy can enhance business value.

Key Takeaways from the Lecture

1. Disaster preparedness is not a “cost” but an “investment”

Many companies perceive disaster preparedness as a financial burden, but in reality, it strengthens corporate credibility and opens up new business opportunities. For instance, major corporations increasingly require their business partners to have a BCP in place as a prerequisite for collaboration.

2. Case studies of successful implementation in Japan and abroad

I shared various real-world examples of how companies have leveraged disaster preparedness to reinforce their business resilience and competitive advantage.

3. Kitakyushu’s strengths and future potential

Kitakyushu has relatively low disaster risks, making it an attractive location for companies considering relocation. However, this also means that disaster preparedness tends to be underestimated. Through this lecture, I aimed to highlight how being proactive in disaster preparedness can contribute to sustainable business growth.

I hope this lecture helped local business leaders recognize the importance of disaster preparedness and consider it as an integral part of their corporate strategy. Moving forward, I will continue sharing insights on how businesses can effectively integrate disaster resilience with sustainable growth.
