About the BOSAI Sports Festa in Sendai

On Sunday, September 1st, 2024, we held the BOSAI Sports Festa in Sendai at Aqua Ignis Sendai, a symbolic site of the Tohoku region’s recovery efforts. The event was designed for families, combining disaster prevention education with sports activities under the concept, “Learning while having fun!”

The program featured various activities such as a special “Tani Ladder” workshop led by former Japan national soccer team player Shinichiro Tani, a disaster prevention quiz rally, and “Moshimo Makimaki,” which helped participants imagine and prepare for different disaster scenarios. These programs provided participants with enjoyable yet educational opportunities to deepen their understanding of disaster preparedness.

The Tani Ladder, developed by former Japan national soccer player Shinichiro Tani, is a training method focused on improving speed, agility, and coordination. By emphasizing proper posture, balance, and footwork, it helps participants run more efficiently. Originally designed for soccer players, it has since expanded to benefit athletes in various sports as well as non-athletes. The drills are adaptable for all ages, making it an engaging way to enhance athletic performance.

Aqua Ignis Sendai, built on land affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, served as a significant venue for this event, contributing not only to the local community’s recovery but also to the promotion of disaster awareness.

90% of Participants Were “Very Satisfied” or “Satisfied”

According to a post-event survey, over 90% of participants expressed they were “very satisfied” or “satisfied.” Many attendees also voiced their desire for the event to become a regular occurrence. We are sincerely grateful for everyone’s participation and positive feedback.

The “Tani Ladder Special Workshop,” led by Shinichiro Tani, was particularly well-received, with participants remarking, “It changed my life!” and “My child was very happy and learned how to run faster.” The workshop taught participants how to improve their posture, face forward, and run with a firm stride. The 70-minute session left many feeling transformed, and we were equally inspired by the progress we witnessed.

Positive Feedback on the Disaster Prevention Programs

Participants in the disaster prevention programs also shared positive feedback, including comments such as, “It was a great experience for families to learn about disaster preparedness together,” and “I had never thought about the speed of tsunamis, so it was very informative.” We were thrilled to see participants enjoying and learning from both the sports and disaster prevention programs, demonstrating the effectiveness of our unique approach of combining sports with disaster education.

Future Plans

Moving forward, we plan to expand the scale of our events and continue developing new initiatives that merge “disaster prevention” with various other themes. Our goal is to provide more people across the country with engaging opportunities to learn about disaster preparedness.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and supporters of this event. We look forward to your continued support as we strive to deliver meaningful disaster prevention initiatives in the future.
