SAKIGAKE JAPAN Corp. is pleased to announce its participation in the “Isolated Village Summit 2024,” organized by the Disaster Management Training Center Support Association (DMTC-SA) and the Kumano Disaster Prevention Consortium. At this event, we delivered a lecture and showcased our latest disaster prevention technologies at our booth.
About Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture
Shirahama Town is a renowned tourist destination located about an hour’s flight from Tokyo. It is famous for its hot springs, including Shirahama Onsen, Tsubaki Onsen, and Hiokigawa Onsen, and its beautiful sandy beaches. Despite its natural beauty, Shirahama faces challenges such as population decline and aging, making disaster prevention measures increasingly critical. The town’s location along the Pacific Ocean, with mountainous terrain approaching the coastline, raises concerns about community isolation during large-scale disasters like a Nankai Trough earthquake.
Summit Overview
The “Isolated Village Summit 2024” focused on the approximately 15,000 isolated villages in Japan, aiming to promote self-help and mutual aid in the event of wide-area simultaneous disasters. The theme was “Self-help and Mutual Aid in Isolated Communities – What to Store and What to Prepare for?”
Through a panel discussion, university and business representatives who had actually visited the Noto Peninsula provided insight into the challenges of “inaccessible public assistance,” what happened on New Year’s Day, and what they struggled to accomplish. The summit explored new approaches to public assistance, examining the unique challenges of steep slopes and major coastal roads. Real-life examples of road clearance in elderly-populated marginalized communities were discussed to deepen understanding of disaster preparedness.
The event was held in a gymnasium of a former local school, attended by approximately 100 participants, including the town mayor, government officials, local businesses, and residents.
Our Participation
At the summit, we introduced our latest disaster prevention technologies, explaining their effectiveness in both our booth and lecture. Our presentation was particularly well-received by local ward leaders and council members, highlighting the practical benefits of our technologies.
Future Prospects
Our participation in the event was highly educational and inspiring. We remain committed to advancing our efforts in disaster prevention and look forward to contributing further to this important field.
We appreciate your continued support for SAKIGAKE JAPAN Corp. in our disaster prevention initiatives.
